Fritters, fills, and fun

Well folks . . . I had thought of some new topics for my blog and partially wrote one, but I just didn't have the time to post it yet. We'll see what I can do in the coming week. So far work at Tim Horton's has been good. I am still training but on Wednesday I have a shift by myself. I am not worried, and actually quite excited to not take orders from anyone and just bake what I think that I should bake. All my clothes smell like the store but at least it doesn't stink like Subway. The other day I went in there for like 2 seconds and my coat reeked like Subway for the rest of the day.

I am super pumped for this weekend. I have Saturday, Sunday and Monday off. On Saturday McComishs are coming over to celebrate my birthday with me. On Sunday, my actual birthday, I am going to watch the Cardinals hopefully win over the Pittsburg Steelers in the Superbowl. I have planned all the food and such which I am super excited for. And I am making cheesecake for my birthday cake. I got a springform pan from my mom and I can't wait to try it. I'll have to let you all know how it turned out. It's going to be chocolate covered strawberry cheesecake!!!

This last weekend saw me attending one large chinese food party that my mom put on. Good food, got to play some cards and get to know some new people. Yesterday we went to see the movie "Paul Blart Mall Cop" in Red Deer. It was sososososo good! I would definitely suggest that you go see it!

I wish that I had more to report on, but sadly I do not live a very exciting life. There are many things that I want to do right now like go to a Flames game, fly to BC to see Leia and Serena, go on a vacation somewhere warm, etc. But I am trying to SAVE my money by living at home and working so doing that would defeat the purpose. However I suppose that a person still has to enjoy life and the time they are working a menial job, so maybe I should splurge a bit and do something fun. I was thinking about going to Missionfest in Edmonton in a couple weeks! I wonder if my aunt will put me up for the night?!?!

Anyhow I better get to bed as I work at 9 tomorrow. Can't wait for Wed- Fri shift 3-11!!! Later days!!

Splendiferous Ramblings

Greetings avid readers!

The weather has been gorgeous around Stettler these days and makes for more positively-uplifiting days rather than those dreary-overcast-winter-blizzard days. I am feeling in an adjective mood today. Life has been a bit more interesting in the past week. I didn't do a whole lot because I only started work on Friday at Tim Hortons. On Monday I went shopping in Red Deer and pulled out some good steals for some much needed dress clothes. Thursday I was also in Red Deer doing a bit more shopping and then I went to "Bride Wars" with Kim. The movie was better than expected and it was nice to spend some time with Kim again. She'll soon be living in Stettler doing her teaching practicum in Erskine for the next few months, so I'll see lots of her.

My first day of work was extremely boring as I just stared at a computer screen for 7 hours watching the training dvds and finishing them!! Yesterday was way better. I learned how to do all the baking, the throws, some cleaning and other general stuff. I love it. It is so fun, easy, and I am always busy. My coworkers are all super nice and fun to work with too. I am pumped to work again tomorrow. I know that this initially excitement will probably die off, but for the time being I am going to enjoy it.

Yay!!!!!!!!!! Arizona won the NFC championship today. It was so exciting and a great game too. I will now be watching the Super Bowl on Feb. 1 my birthday. They just need to win and I will be overly joyous. Right now Pittsburg is beating Baltimore and I hope it stays that way although I don't care much for either team.

That's really all that's new with me these days. I am still trying to think of a good topic to write about on this blog other than daily happenings, but until I get some suggestions or have a massive brain wave, this is all that you will get. So until then . . . later days!!!

Always Fresh, Always Tim Hortons

Greetings!!

I bring great news this week. I got a job at Tim Hortons for the time being! I have decided to think realistically and expect that I won't be hearing back from all the future job opportunities for awhile and even longer to attain a visa. So I am settling into a routine here in Stettler. I am hoping that I will be gone by the end of March or April, however I have no set deadline until I hear something from these places. I am just super excited to be working at my first real job with an employer that is unrelated to me. I will be doing the baking in the back and working full time. My friend Esther works there and she says that it is a great atmosphere to be working in. So I am pumped!

On the Florida note, I have been applying to tons of jobs every day this week. Things from a ride attendant at Six Flags amusement park, to a camp instructor at Busch Gardens, to an animal trainer at Sea World, to an eco-cruise guide in the Florida Keys. All the jobs I have applied to have something exciting to offer and the opportunity to be in the southern United States. Another idea that sort of popped up is an internship. Apparently since it is unpaid I can work at just on being a tourist in the US. I would need some money to pay for rent and food, but otherwise this idea is looking the best so far. I will be down there already and able to apply to Seaworld and other places in person.

The NFL playoffs aren't really pleasing this year. Baltimore beat Tennessee which is brutal because we hate Baltimore. Philly beat New York so that's good and Arizona beat Carolina, also really good. I am currently watching the San Diego vs. Pittsburg game and am really, really hoping that San Diego wins. If they do, it can still be a good Superbowl with San Diego against Arizona. However, if Pittsburg wins I will NOT watch the next game with them and Baltimore. I just won't care anymore. But who knows what will happen?

Being in Stettler has been good. I have had a ton of time to relax, go to the gym everyday, really take a liking to swimming lengths, and planning some things with friends. I miss Leia, Serena, and the ocean more than I ever thought possible, but I'll survive! Well that's about it for today. Later days!!!

Welcome 2009!

Greetings and Happy New Year!

I am quite relieved and happy to welcome in a new year. No one can erase the past. We can only learn from our mistakes, cherish the memories, and move on with life. That being said it seems like this past year has had it's fair share of ups and downs. So here's a quick run down. (If you have been keeping up with my blog then you'll know this all already, but it's kind of interesting to rehash the past year)

January - my last spring semester starting off with a tough month due to the break up of Joe and I
February - Leia came out to Victown for my birthday, fun times with Jess, and a great reading break visit from my Grandma and Rissy
March - don't remember much, maybe somebody came and visited me??
April - school ended, hernia surgery, and transition home
May - working for Dad, Brianne's grad
June and July - amazingly fun times in Bamfield!
August - working at home again, dating Andy. Seems like this month went really fast
September to December - one big nightmare of a semester that I wish to never repeat nor really think about for a very long time.

I started this year off with a bang surprising my grandma and relatives with a visit to Saskatoon. It was great to get away and spend the weekend celebrating my two cousin's birthdays and just relaxing without thinking about job applications. But much to my chagrin, I am back at it in full swing. Today I spent the entire day on the internet and phone, editing my resume, emailing people for information, and researching more possible jobs in the States. It's such a set back that I am from Canada. The ability to get a job internationally in my field is not really as easy as I always thought it would be especially with my lack of experience.

Hence, while I wait for responses and continue my job hunt in the evenings I will be getting a job in Stettler. It's hard to admit this because it makes it seem that I will be here for a long period of time. I really hope it is just temporary. But the one thing that I have already learned this year and practiced more is just being appreciative of the place that I am right now. I need to stop worrying about the future, what I can't control, and my lack of confidence and instead just be thankful for free rent, great food, and a Father who loves me.

Being a cheerful giver and helper is another thing that has really come alive to me lately. There are times I just don't want to help get parts for my dad or don't want to contribute to a conversation, but the Lord loves a cheerful giver and I have joy because of Him. I want to love talking to people, encouraging them, and lending a hand all so that I can glorify God by my actions.

Lastly, I must comment on the NFL playoff situation. The Dallas Cowboys were an abomination in their last couple games and I was honestly ashamed to wear my jersey. The attitudes from a number of players on that team poisoned their hope to make the playoffs (along with the lack of confidence and skill from Tony Romo). On a more happier note, however, the San Diego Chargers have done amazing. Beating Indianapolis was a great start to the playoffs and I just hope that they can continue to win. Miami has lost out which is too bad, particularly because of who they lost to: the hated Baltimore Ravens. There aren't a whole lot of good teams I like in the playoffs so the SuperBowl may not be as celebratory as I thought. Here's my hopes this week: (not who I think will win, but who I want to win)
Tennessee over Baltimore (lay a whippin' on those boys)
San Diego over Pittsburg
Philadelphia over New York (although I don't like either team)
Arizona over Carolina

Well there you have it folks. I shouldn't wait that long to blog again . . . waaaaay too long. Later days! (Oh and I miss my hair-dressing sister!!!!)
